The 2027 Assembly Delegate Elections are approaching, and now is the time to organize in every Assembly district across California.

Together, we can elect progressive delegates, strengthen grassroots leadership, and build lasting power within the California Democratic Party.

Who We Are

We’re a network of grassroots Democratic changemakers and volunteers committed to transforming California’s politics and the California Democratic Party. We recognize that in its current form the Democratic Party, both nationally and statewide, does not represent the interests of everyday people. We are here to change that. We believe that the people of California, not corporations and lobbyists, should determine our laws and policies. We believe in the pursuit of justice, safety and freedom for all people, both here in the United States and around the world.

Get Organized

Our primary strategy is to win a majority of delegates on the state Central Committee – in collaboration with progressive electoral campaigns and a variety of movements.
Delegates have the power to endorse (or not) candidates for office, elect powerful party leaders and vote to set the platform, legislative positions and resolutions.

Build a Slate

The next opportunity will be the biannual Assembly Delegate Election Meetings (ADEMs) in early 2027, when 14 delegates will be elected in each of the state’s 80 Assembly districts. The path to success is to form slates of like-minded candidates who will get out the vote for all of them.

WHY ADEMs MATTER

Your District. Your Delegates. Your Voice.

PDN’s goal is to win a majority of delegates on the California Democratic Party State Central Committee, working alongside progressive electoral campaigns and grassroots movements.

Delegates have the power to:

  1. Vote on which candidates receive the Democratic Party’s endorsement.
  2. Help choose the leaders who shape the direction of the California Democratic Party.
  3. Vote on the party platform, legislative positions, ballot measures and resolutions.

Fourteen ADEM delegates are elected from each of California’s 80 Assembly Districts in early 2027.

GET ORGANIZED IN YOUR DISTRICT

The Time to Start Is NOW!

Winning begins with local organizing. Candidate filing starts in December and will close early January. PDN will provide support and connections, but strong district leadership is essential.

Step 1: Sign Up

Fill out our signup form!

Step 2: Build Your Network

Identify progressive organizers, community leaders, organizations and activists in your Assembly district.

Connect with neighboring districts when appropriate and reach out to members of previous progressive slates.

Step 3: Create a Communication Group

Establish a communication channel, preferably Signal, to coordinate with interested organizers.

PDN can help connect you with others who have expressed interest.

Step 4: Expand Your Outreach

Invite others to participate based on the PDN Policy Platform.

Include progressive unions, labor councils, community organizations, and their leadership and staff.

Step 5: Hold an Organizing Meeting

Bring interested people together, in person or online, to begin planning.

Coordinators do not need to be candidates.

Step 6: Stay Connected With PDN

Share your organizing progress and connect with your assigned PDN regional organizer, if applicable.

BUILD A WINNING ADEM SLATE

14 Delegates. One Strong Progressive Slate.

Our goal is to build strong, diverse, and committed slates of 14 candidates in each Assembly district, with seven candidates of each gender under the slate definition.

Starting early will help us recruit candidates, build relationships, and prepare for a coordinated election effort.

What We’re Looking for in Slate Members

1. District Residency and Voter Registration

Candidates must live in their Assembly district and be registered Democrats as of election day, Nov. 3, 2026.

2. Diversity and Representation

Build slates that reflect the demographic, geographic, political, and social diversity of each district.

3. Strong Community Connections

Recruit candidates who can mobilize their personal networks and encourage others to participate. ADEMs are an internal party election, and voters are not automatically sent ballots – they will need to sign up. However, they will have the option to vote electronically or in person.

4. Commitment to the Entire Slate

We advise that you avoid joining competing slates.

5. Get-Out-the-Vote Commitment

Slate members should actively participate in voter outreach, recruitment, and coordinated GOTV efforts.

6. State Convention Participation

Delegates should plan to attend state conventions – there will be two during your two-year term – or arrange for a qualified proxy if necessary. The first convention is tentatively scheduled for May 21-23, 2027 in San Jose. The second convention will likely take place late 2027 and will be the convention for voting on endorsements for the March 2028 primaries.

7. Independent Decision-Making

Delegates should vote independently rather than at the direction of an employer or affiliated organization.

8. Long-Term Collaboration

Continue working together after the election, including at state conventions, within county Democratic committees, and through local progressive organizing.
